From a job worth doing to the best job in the world
‘Something we probably all share is a natural curiosity for technological improvement and innovation’, says Kees van Ginneken, a process engineer who has worked in different Dutch offices and also in Oman.
‘What makes working here special is that you contribute to the latest developments by putting technology at work. We always welcome new ideas and directions, and help each other arrive at the best solutions for our clients. There isn’t always quite enough time for exchange on every level, but working in a large knowledge network has many benefits and is often really enjoyable. It helps you do the job in the best possible way, and that is right in line with my motto: ‘what is worth doing, is worth doing well.’
The energy issue
When you are a specialist, working together with other experts at the forefront of technological innovation is exciting and interesting in itself. ‘Rather than just watch the news and worry about the scale of the energy problem and global warming, we get the chance to help deal with it’, says Kees. ‘I recently worked on the storage of natural gas in salt caverns. Others support the development of gas-to-liquid technology, with pretty clever engineering that make the production process more efficient.’
Big is beautiful
Efficient energy use is also the aim of the game in the District Cooling systems we have worked on in Europe and the Middle East, and the desalination plants that turn seawater into drinking water. But it’s not only new concepts or modern technology that can bring excitement to the daily working experience, says project manager Mariusz Jasicki in Poland. ‘To me personally, passion means that you feel ready to take on anything. When you’re passionate, you are eager to learn and develop, and you start to actually prefer the demanding jobs. The bigger the project the better, as far as I’m concerned. I like to be on site as much as possible, smell the concrete and solve any problem that may arise.’
Helping each other
Everyone at Tebodin can, up to a certain extent, indulge their passions while helping each other achieve project goals and learning more. ‘Every day, we work together to find the practical solutions that can give our clients a competitive edge in tough market places. When we exceed their expectations and have implemented the best technical solution, which often goes together, it’s the best job in the world. It’s very satisfying and stimulating, and we all know how to enjoy a project well done.’
